Recently, I visited a local mall here in Houston about 15 minutes from my home. I used to love going to shopping malls. It was so convenient. All the stores I wanted in one place. I could get all of my shopping done in one hour and have a bite to eat. Now, the mall is not so appealing.
Large crowds, screaming children with oblivious parents and those vendors in the middle of the mall peddling everything from cheap makeup to a nail buffer that will magically make your nails shiny. FYI to that salesman, you can buy one of those little blocks at Wal-Mart for .99 cents and get the same effect.
I used to not mind the crowds until I grew older. Now, if I have to go to a store, or God forbid, the mall, I head out for shopping the moment I know the store will open so I can avoid the crowds like the plague. People with no manners, people who like to block the aisle while having a conversation with someone whom they only saw about 15 minutes ago. Shopping carts being left in the middle of one aisle while the customer shops in the next one.
Last Black Friday, news outlets were reporting that malls saw a decline in Black Friday sales because of online shopping. God Bless the online shopping merchants!! Shoprunner is a bonus for me with it’s 2 day shipping for so many stores as well as Amazon Prime. A lot of stores are also offering same day delivery in select cities. Macy’s, Neiman Marcus and local grocery stores as well as Amazon have jumped on that bandwagon. Now, I can buy anything from my house while still wearing my pajamas and no makeup!
So, in closing, no more malls for me. I’m done with it. I’m blessed to have a grown child in my home who hates malls as much as I do and a spouse who doesn’t really like shopping at all. Now, back to my coffee and browsing at Amazon.com.
